Starting tomorrow, Uppsala Union of Engineering and Science Students (UTN), will be offering a temporary housing at the Artillerifältet by BMC in Uppsala. The housing consists of military tents and has initially room for 20 students. Registration is made here.
- Many students without a place to live chooses to travel to and from Uppsala each day, while those without the possibility to travel often chose to check in at a hostel or even at a bench outside in a park. The lack of housing is bringing stress, worries and in many cases an economical setback, UTN's president Johan Wikanders says.
Uppsala Union of Engineering and Science Students arranges and suppports the reception activities for around 1500 new students this fall. The purpose is to let the new students get started with their studies, establish everyday routines and make a lot of new contacts. The reception activities also work positive at the torrent of students at the different educations.
- It is a very large step to move to Uppsala and to start an education. To be able to only attend sporadic during the first couple of weeks makes it hard to get started with ones education and the community. The worst case is that you quit your education, UTN's vice president Henrik Vallgren says.
Uppsala Union of Engineering and Science Students urge all students engaged in the reception activites and all older students to lend or rent empty rooms and also convey contacts for the new students.
- With this many new students without housing we had to do something. Of course the tents are an emergency solution and the goal is that all students as fast as possible should be able to have their own permanemt accomodation, Johan Wikander, President at UTN, says.
