During the boardmeeting on Wednesday, 11th of December, 2013 , it was decided that the Uppsala Union of Engineering and Science students, UTN , will be given the position as Student Union from the 1th of January 2014. The titel will apply to the faculty of Science and Technology, except campus Gotland and apply to the summer of 2016, then a new application period for position as a student union occurs.
- It's a fantastic feeling that this finally become real, so many people have worked for this for a long time! We have a very intresting time ahead of us, and I hope, and believe, that the four student unions of Uppsala University together can come up with good solutions to the changes that might occur, says Emma Lindbjer, president of the UTN .
There have a long journey around the UTN's, to be or not to be, a formal student union and the decision yesterday, is the university boards second decision on the issue in less than one year. Back in the spring the board decided to let UTN become a student union, a decision that Uppsala Student union decided to appeal . The appeal was approved and Uppsala Student Union was given the status as student union also for the faculty of Science and Technology. Since then, Uppsala Student union have choose to renounce their position as student union for faculty of Science and Technology and in this way opened up for UTN to apply again.
- Normally, decisions on which organizations should receive the status as a student union is taken every 3rd years , which is why yesterday's decision only applies until 2016 , explains Emma Lindbjer
