PhD Movie is a live action movie based on the popular web comic Piled Higher and Deeper, or PhD Comic for short. The web comic is about life in academia; how graduate students are tackling frustrating projects and diffuse professors, how you are supposed to take every chance to get free food – something you can do quite often at the university.
The movie follows four graduate students; Cecilia, Mike, Tajel and the Nameless Grad Student. These four characters are trying to balance their research, teaching and private life in a comical mix.
Adrian Bahne has been the coordinator for the screenings at Uppsala, and has made the whole thing possible in cooperation with Uppsala Union of Engineering and Science Students and Uppsala Student Union. Both me and Adrian were nervous before the screening last Friday, had our hard work and promotion payed off?
The clock approached halv past five when the screening were scheduled to start, and when we arrived at the Polacksbacken Aula to prep we were greeted by a group of people already waiting to get in. Then the stream of people started, and it didn't stop. Me and Adrian looked at each other with a mixture of chock and joy. None of us had expected a full house.
We introduced the movie and turned off the lights. The movie maked the whole room burst with laughter more than one time, you could feel that the viewers were seeing them selves in the movie. They laughed at machines that only work after the right combination of punches, at professors that make everything stop working when they enter the room, and at much more.
The next screening is Tuesday the 24th of November, we hope to show the movie to a full house that time too. Check out the event in our calendar and fill out the interest notification. We hope to see YOU at the next screening!
