Will you start your studies in Uppsala?
Uppsala is an international well recognised studentcity with a university founded as early as 1477, wich make it the oldest in the Nordic area. With around 40 000 students through the whole city from all the bikepaths to the wide cultureoffers Uppsala is a studentcity hard to match. The close distance to both to Stockholm and Arlanda gives the opportunity to have the whole world around the corner! Without doubt is the most popular transportation among students biking. That's no wonder since it's cheap and give an easy alternativ to get to different university campus, studenthousing areas and everything else happening in Uppsala.

Uppsalas campus
A campus is an area with universitybuildnings with research and educational activities. At Uppsala University there are a total of 12 campus where one is located at Gotland. The SciTech-faculty is mainly at the Ångstrom laboratory, The Biomedical Center (BMC), The Evolutionary Biology Centre (EBC), Geocentrum (GEO) and the Information Technology Centre (ITC). There is not unusual for students to take classes at other campus.

Housing
When you arrive to Uppsala as a new student is it wise to have some kind of housing in or near the city. It might be very hard to get a hounsing in Uppsala due the preassure of students and the attractive location so it is wise to sign up for as many housingques and systems as possible. If you are new and arrive without a housing there is still hope . There is some houngques that you cant enter untill you are a student and even some at the Nations. It's also possible to subrent (but be aware of scams) or to live as a roomate.

When you are studing you might need some financial support. CSN is a Swedish Ministry of Education and Research where students apply for financial aid. There is more information about them and who can get financial support at their webpage.
The Unions, the Section associations and Nations
In Uppsala there is 13 studentnations (more common as the nations) and three student unions connected to the university where Uppsala Union of Engineering and Science represents the students at the Sci-Tech facutly. There is also a union connected to the campus Gotland (Rindi) and unions connected to SLU.
Something special about our faculty is the studentsection life. Every programstudent is represented by a section association. Are you interested to know more about them, their operations or find out wich represents you? Look into it on this page right here.
The Nations have everything from lunches, pubs and clubs where you can get something to eat or drink adapted to student prices or enjoy theater-, music- and sportactivities just to mention a few areas. To visit the nations you need atleast one membership at one of them. A memebership in a nation gives you discuonts at that specific nation and somethimes a ticket into their houseing offers.
As a compliment to the nations Uppsala union of Engineering and Science has many socialevents (that you can read about on our eventpage) and the Riverrafting at walpurgis is one of the most famous ones. The union also have a pub at our unionhouse Uthgård every thursday. The Union primal duty is to have an impact on the university and promote the students opinions and rights. The organisation consists of students working for students, the membership in Uppsala Union of Engineering and Science students is free, read more and join here on the website.

Inom studentvärlden finns det en hel del studentikos kultur, studentkultur.
Alla som studerar på TekNat kan skaffa sig en UTN-mössa. Det är en mössa som påminner mycket om en studentmössa, men den är blå och så har den en tofs på höger sida. På tofsens snöre placerar du så kallade spegater, små bollar av hoplindade snören, i olika färger, där färgen visar vad du läser för program eller om du till exempel har studieuppehåll.
På TekNat förekommer det även sektionsklädnader på nästan alla program. Sektionsklädnaden är en overall, labrock, morgonrock eller skamkappa. Modellen på sektionsklädnaden i kombination med sektionsklädnadens färg visar vilket program du läser.
När det är sittning, till exempel gasque, så brukar det stå vad det är för klädkod under sittningen. Vanliga klädkoder är kavaj, udda kavaj, sektionsklädnad och högtidsdräkt. UTN-mössan kan bäras till samtliga klädkoder.
Ett annat vanligt studentkulturellt fenomen är mikrokö. Detta förekommer framförallt på campusen Ångströmlaboratoriet och ITC, men kan ske ibland även på EBC eller andra campus. En mikrokö är ett speciellt sätt för att köa till att få värma sin matlåda. Mikrokön går ut på att det är matlådan, inte du, som köar. Om du kommer till ett lunchrum där det står en massa matlådor på rad på diskbänken så är det antagligen en mikrokö, då kan du fråga var du ska ställa din matlåda så pekar någon snäll person ut vad som är sist i kön.
The assembly and receptions
When arriving to the university as a new student (also called recentior or shortversion recce) you are called to an assebly to accept your studyseat. It is of most importance to atend to keep you studyseat at the university. If you can not attend it is crutial that you contact the university.
After the assebly there many receptions starting depending on what education you start. The Union, the nations and different sections have all different startupweeks. If you are unsure wich one your education is connected to do not hessitate to contact our Information Officer. The receptions ans startups are for you as a new student to get to know your fellow classmates, the city and the prepartorial classes.

Course litterature
When you are studying you can often find the course litterature on the corse webpage. The litterature is often sold at usuall bookstores in Uppsala and online. It's also possible to find secound hand books up to date by older students and noticeboards around campus. It's also possible to borrow some litterature from the universitylibruaries. The University have responsebility to make sure that the information about the courselitterature is awailable for the students to maintain.
Help and support
During your studies you can get both help and support by different ways. It could be from the union, the faculty or the university.
The Union
Uppsala union of enginering and science students are the union for the SciTech-faculty and also have some supportfunctions. The union have ten fulltime working students, four of these are student liaison officers who work to affect the university for making your studytime better. The student service unit
If you need any kind of help or guidance during your studies you can get it at the student service unit at the university. For example; if you have dyslexia or some other kind of reading disorder you can get longer writing time during examinations, audio books or other support based on your needs and troubles.
At the student service unit you can find study counsellors, schedulers and program administrators. The study counsellors are there if you need to discuss what classes to take for your program, what re examinations to prioritise and many other questions concerning your education. The student service unit also has the ångströmreception next to the library. There you can pick up your graded exams, copies of your registrations, your UPTEC-number when its time for your examination essay and other regular questions about studies.
Enheten för lika villkor
Om du har blivit diskriminerad eller trakasserad under dina studier kan du vända dig till Enheten för lika villkor. Enheten för lika villkor ligger centralt på universitetet och arbetar med frågor kring diskriminering och trakasserier med avseende på kön, könsidentitet, könsuttryck, etnisk tillhörighet, religion eller annan trosuppfattning, funktionsnedsättning, sexuell läggning samt ålder.
Andra organisationer
Om du har andra problem med din studietillvaro så finns det även några olika organisationer som kan vara dig behjälpliga.
Om du mår psykiskt dåligt, till exempel är stressad eller har någon psykisk funktionsnedsättning, kan du få hjälp och stöd av Studenthälsan. Studenthälsan har psykologer och kuratorer som det går att boka tid för att prata med om du mår psykiskt dåligt. Studenthälsan håller också kurser om självförtroende, stresshantering, våga tala, studieval med mera.
Om du behöver prata med någon om något som är av det mer andliga slaget kan du vända dig till Universitetskyrkan. Förutom att du kan samtala med präster, diakoner eller andra anställda på Universitetskyrkan så ordnar Universitetskyrkan även evenemang av olika slag. De ordnar till exempel stilla mässor, bönestunder, gospelmässor och regnbågsmässor.
Om du behöver information om sexuell hälsa så finns Kondoma mera. Kondoma mera ordnar workshops och föreläsningar där de berättar om olika könssjukdomar och olika typer av skydd mot sexuellt överförbara sjukdomar. Du kan också få gratis kondomer eller andra typer av skydd för en billig penning från Kondoma mera. UTN har latexkondomer från Kondoma mera på sitt kårhus Uthgård, dessa kondomer är gratis för studenter.

Gasque – A dining among studentculture.
Studentikos – A subculture based on the unik traditions among students.
Valborg / Walpurgis – Last os April, happily celebrated in the whole city with Riverrafting, champanegalopp, student cap ceremony and other studentikos.
ik / ak / dk – Stands for ”Ingen Kvart” (No quarter), ”Akademisk Kvart” (academic quarter) and ”Dubbel Kvart” (doubble quarter). Usually used as timeguidence in studentlife. No quarter means the exact time given. Academic quarter is that the event begins during the first quarter after set time. The doubble means the halfhour from the set time and forward.
